The Sorry Boys Championship Barbeque Team was founded in 2002 by Merritt Island, Florida Dentist, Chip Faul and his partner Gary Leyman from Orlando, Florida. Chip and Gary, both long time barbeque pit masters had met years before while competing in Memphis in May (MIM) and Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS) contests. The latter part of 2001 brought about the formation of The Florida Barbeque Association. Chip and Gary were founding members, with Chip serving on the Board of Directors. The first FBA contest the two cooks did together won them The Grand Champion Award in Dade City, Florida. Finding themselves with an appreciable point lead after only two contests, they decided to set their sights on the FBA Team of the Year Award. After six more contests that year, The Sorry Boys had accumulated the most points overall to win the coveted Team of the Year Award. The opening contest of 2003 was the FBA National Championship held in Sebring, Florida. The Sorry Boys rang victorious again, winning the Grand Champion Award and beating some of the best Barbeque Teams in the Nation.
