Sorry Boys Beer Can Turkey What You’ll
Need
1 Turkey 1-5oz.Bottle
Sorry Boys BarnYard Chicken Seasoning 1-5oz.Bottle
Sorry Boys Original Seasoning 4Tbs Sorry
Boys Marinade Mix (uncut) 1-Jumbo
Can of your favorite Beer (I used Foster’s: now that’s a BEER!!) Olive
Oil Step
1. Pour out 1/2 to 3/4 beer (since
that can of Foster’s costs $2.00 I’d pour it in my mouth if I was you!! But
since I only drink cheap American beer I just added it to the water pan).
Add
the Sorry Boys Marinade Mix to can, plus 1 Tbs. Sorry boys Original Seasoning.
Beer can should only be about half full to allow the solution to boil and steam
quicker. Step
2. Insert your hand into the turkey
between the skin and the meat, from the neck hole, and skin the bird 2/3 of the
way down the breast, the back and around the wings and legs. Be sure that the
skin stays attached to the meat around the bottom 1/3. This is what will allow
the tenting effect that you will see as old Tom cooks.
Step
3. Liberally sprinkle Sorry Boys
BarnYard Chicken Seasoning inside the turkey between the skin and the meat,
working the seasoning down around the legs. Don’t be bashful with the amount
of seasoning you use because we have plenty more where that came from! Besides,
the seasoning is what makes old Tommy taste better than your average Holiday
Turkey!!!
Step
4. Pull the neck skin over the hole
and secure together with a toothpick. Seal any other tears or cuts you may have
in the skin. I found that since most of these critters have been frozen for
while their skin is more prone to tearing than that of a chicken, therefore the
multiple skewers you see below to repair the tear. As the bird cooks this will
stick together and form a seal to trap the steam that will be emitted from the
beer can, forcing the flavors through the meat.
Step
5. Place your bird over the beer can, through the butt end opening. Brush with
Olive Oil and sprinkle with Sorry Boys Original Seasoning to ensure a tasty skin
when served. Cook
in a gas grill, bullet cooker or over indirect charcoals for about 3 hours, or
until internal meat temp reaches 160 degrees. Check both thigh and breast.
Allow to rest and cool to
140 degrees and slice in any preferred method.
Note
how the turkey has swollen due to the seal formed around the beer can and at the
neck, which results in a small pressure cooker being formed by the boiling
mixture in the beer can. Also note that the wings have been tucked back to get
them away from the breast and allow both the breast meat and the wing to cook to
a golden brown. You can bet that turkey
doesn’t get much better than this! Enjoy! |
